It was snowing again.

Again.

Beth was SO tired of snow! She was tired of everything. She was 25 years old, a bit on the plump side, brunette, brown eyes and had a very pretty face. She lived alone with a cat and an old television for company. She couldn't afford a new tv or cable with the crappy salesgirl job she had so she watched the regular network programs with disgust. Looking through the TV Guide she had stolen from the corner shop, she saw that It's A Wonderful Life was coming on.

Again.

"Dammit!" she shouted. "I hate that! Can't they think of anything else to put on this time of year?"

She threw the magazine across the room barely missing the cat.

"I don't like you either right now you ugly feline." she said. "Why don't you go chase a bug or something besides sitting there licking yourself and watching me?"

The cat stood up, flicked her tail and strolled out of the room to sleep on the bed. Beth turned off the tv and sat staring at the wall.

"Well," she said out loud, "I can just sit here or go to the bar and see if I can talk some married man who's wife don't understand him to buy me a drink, or go sneak into the movie again."

She decided to sneak into the movie. She put on her coat and headed out the door and down the street to the movie house. On the way she planned her method of getting in. Last time she got a boy to throw rocks at the window so she could sneak in while the attendants were chasing him. This late she didn't think she would find a boy so she looked around for another unsuspecting victim to aid her cause. As luck would have it, she saw that there was a long line at the ticket window. She stood beside a group of teenagers that looked to be together. She managed to get in the middle of them as they entered, all poking their tickets at the attendant. Since he was distracted with sorting all the teens out, she wisked past the turnstile and entered the lobby.

She chose the movie she wanted and sat down to wait for the long procession of advertisments to start before the movie itself would begin. She had chosen a seat in the back knowing from experience that it was less likely for her to be noticed. A few minutes later, a man sat down beside her. She looked over at him annoyed that he would choose that seat when there were so many others empty.

"Popcorn?" he asked, holding a container out to her.

"No thanks." she replied as she pushed her elbow on the arm of the seat next to him.

"Am I crowding you?" he asked.

"Yes as a matter of fact, you are."

The man smiled. "Well considering that you are in my seat, you'll just have to put up with it."

"Sorry!" she said, standing up to move. "I'll go sit somewhere else."

"Sit down", he said, "before you sit in someone elses seat and they find you didn't buy a ticket."

"What makes you think I didn't buy a ticket?" she asked, alarm bells ringing in her head.

"Because I watched you as you entered. I thought it was rather clever of you the way you just slid yourself past the attendant. Quite clever indeed."

"Thanks. I suppose you are going to turn me in? Get me thrown out? I suppose you get your kicks by being a bastard."

"No, not at all. I hadn't considered turning you in but if you want to call me names, I might do that...or I might decide to do something else instead."

"What would that 'something else' be?" she asked.

"Be quiet, girl, the movie is starting. I'll let you know when it's over. Now, do you want some popcorn or not?"

She sat back in the seat in a huff, folded her arms and set her jaw. This asshole was not going to ruin her movie so she settled in comfortably and watched the screen. She moved her arm so that she did not touch the man. She occassionally looked over at her from the corner of her eye to see if he was watching her or the movie. Her couriosity got the best of her so she adjusted herself in her seat in an angle to get a better look at him.

Strong jaw, dark hair...eyelashes. Long eyelashes too. She could see them in the darkness with the light from the screen. He looked to be in his 30's. Glancing at his legs she could see that he was tall as well. Nice build.

"So how do I measure up?" he whispered.

She jumped. "Huh? Um...erm...uh...huh?"

"You were sizing me up. Do I pass or am I an ugly ogre of a bastard?"

Beth narrowed her eyes. "So he wants to play at being smart huh? Fine, I can play too." she thought.

"How tall are you?" she whispered back.

"I am 6 feet 2 inches. Why?"

"Oh nothing, just didn't know they could stack shit that high." she answered.

She heard him take in his breath. "Keep it up girl and you'll find out what that 'something else' is sooner than you expect."

"I have a better idea," she replied, "Why don't you take a flying leap." She started to stand up only to feel his hand on her arm forcing her back down into the seat.

"Sit still. You're not going anywhere. I rarely get to go see a movie and I plan to watch this one to the end. Afterwards, we will go have a coffee and discuss your behavior. For now, shut up and watch the rest of this movie."

She gritted her teeth and retorted, "I am leaving and you...."

"I said SHUT UP and I mean it!" he looked at her with a grim expression.

She sat back fuming for the rest of the movie.

When it ended and the lights came on, he stood up and offered his hand to help her up. She stood up without his help and started to walk out. He blocked her way.

"Now we can go have that coffee. What is your name?"

"Beth."

"Ok, Beth. You will walk out with me like a lady and you will not make a scene. We will go to the cafe across the street and have a coffe and discuss why you act like a brat. By the way, my name is Eric."

"Whatever makes you think I'm going to do that?" she asked.

"Because if you don't, I will put you over my knee right here and now and give you a very deserved spanking."

Her eyes widened and her jaw dropped.

"You wouldn't!"

"Yes I would. So do you come peaceably or do I sit back down and..."

"I'll come!" she said.

"Good girl, you learn fast."

They walked out of the movie and crossed the street to the cafe. After they had sat at a table and ordered the coffee, he turned to her.

"Seems to me you have quite an attitude." he said.

"I happen to like my attitude. It's gotten me far in this world and I don't plan on changing it."

"I think you need it changed, girl. Where did you develop that chip on your shoulder anyway? Don't tell me, you've had boyfriends that turned out to be losers, your parents are no longer around or with that attitude, you probably have just alienated them from your life. Yes, I can see that's just what has happened. So the only way you can get YOUR way is to be a little bitch and be rude and distant."

"Oh, and I suppose you know why I did that?" she asked.

"Yes, because you didn't always get your way, you didn't get everything you wanted, you had to be home at a certian time...stop me anytime here." he said grinning.

"So what if that's true? I can't see that it's any of your business."

"You decided to carry that chip with you all through your life haven't you? You quit school so now you have a cheap place to live because you can only get a minimum wage job and you have to sneak into movies."

"I've had enough" she said, "I'm going home to my ugly cat. At least she doesn't judge me. She just sits around licking herself all day. Oh my, I don't suppose you sit around licking yourself all day too? I could introduce you to her. You two would get along well."

She smiled at him sweetly and rose from her chair. "It's been a pleasure, Eric. Thanks for the coffee and thanks for not turning me in. Oh, and thanks for the mini therapy session. I feel SO much better."

"I think I better at least walk you home. It's late and dangerous for a young girl to walk alone."

"That isn't necessary. I walk by myself around here alone all the time. I don't need you to protect me from the big bad wolf."

PART TWO...coming soon...........
Take my heart and soul. But please don't step on it, it breaks easily.
