OMG!!!!! I think even those of you who don't give/receive disciplanary spankings will agree that I am in BIG trouble. I had a candle burning on my desk while I was working (trying to de-stress)
I left the room, for A minute(turned into about 20 minutes) and there were papers all over my desk. INCLUDING a file from the safe with birth certicates et certera in it. SOMEHOW......one of the papers got too close to the flame and the next thing I knew, everything started to burn!!!!!!!! What a mess and the whole house smells of smoke. All the kids birth certicates, social security cards and other important papers burnt and if I was gone any longer the fire would have spread all across my desk.
BTW, the smoke detector went off just as I walked into my office. Oh, and I also melted some credit cards. Woe is me!

Yes, the papers can be replaced. My husband was in the house when it happened, so no hiding it.

YES I WAS STUPID AND KNEW BETTER THAN TO LEAVE THE ROOM WITH THE CANDLE BURNING!!! but I was only going to leave the room for 1 minute

Candles are dangerous, even 1 minute left on their own, something could go wrong. I know it was an accident but if you feel bad about it, then accept what's coming, and then buy yourself some of those candles that don't drip wax and just burn themselves out when they get down to a certain level. Much safer.
A spanking a day keeps the grumpiness away.

This candle was a votive in a glass container. A piece of paper fell too close to the wick. It must have been the wind. It was a freak accident. One corner of one piece of paper caught fire and it spread FAST! I had a lot of papers spread out on my desk. If it had been an "open" flame, I would never have left it.

OK, you had to know I'd chime in on this one.

We just had a fire in town from a single candle. $75,000 damage, and the only reason it was that low was because it was in a sprinklered building. Business owner had a candle burning and forgot to put it out at the end of the day. Without the sprinklers, it probably would have been a $1-2 million loss...all from one candle.

Suffice it to say that in this house, leaving a candle unattended near any sort of combustibles would result in some serious burning of someone's backside. Fire is not something to treat casually.

That being said, a good alternative to burning candles (if you're going for the scent) is a candle warmer. My wife has one...its similar to those small hot pads for keeping coffee cups warm. You set the candle on it (has to be the kind in a glass jar) and it heats it enough to melt the candle and give off the scent. When you turn it off, the candle wax resolidifies. The other advantage (besides safety) is that the candles last much longer as the wax isn't consumed. The scent does go away eventually though, but that can take weeks or longer.
As you slide down the banisters of life
may the splinters never point the wrong way.

Ok chris mentioned that candle warmer ..by the start of June Avon will be selling one of those for around 20 with 3 glass *warmers* for 16.00 ..
And yes the scent DOES evoporate eventually ...but what is wrong with ADDING a lil scented oil ??? to the wax AFTER..
(trust me ...it works WELL to add the scent)

Okay, I understand it, and I GOT it. OW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I will think three or more times before I ever light a candle again, and I certainly will never even turn my back on a flame again.
I know we were lucky that there was no real damage done, and I have repented big time.

Oh Fanny, what an awful thing to happen.

This is one of my nightmares, because I love candles and use them all the time. I try to be careful...only using the small candles in votives while Im in the room and blowing them out if I leave it, and using the big jar candles if I want to move around the house while its lit. I have a cousin whose house burned down because of a candle...this was so scary hearing about your accident Fanny.

I can only imaging what punishment Steve would met out if I was in your place. Your poor backside!

hey Fanny. I know from experience that it a pain to get your paper done again and some(I think you call them "desk clercs") look down on youwith that nasty "who are you to give me extra work" look But at least you still have your home. intact.

I hope you have an ice maker to cool down your bottom, I think that, if I was your hubby, I'd spank you for every paper burned. and then a hug each time to let you know I still loved you. when I say a spanking for each paper, that means one spanking now for hubby's birth certif today, your birth certif tonight, a familly photo tomorrow morning. I think you are all booked up through to christmas! Good luck Fanny

Oh Fanny! Your poor bottom.

But you deserve it.

Sorry sweetie.

I've had a house fire before when I was married to Son of Satan. The central heating unit caught fire. If it wasn't for my poltergeist waking me up (YES I SAID POLTERGEIST!) (he was a nice one) we would all have been caught in the bedrooms. The fire department responded quickly and only 2 rooms needed to be repaired. But it took a LONG time to get the smell out. Luckily, my oldests ex was a house painter and knew what paints to use to help that.

Like they said, all that stuff can be replaced. But YOU can't. Thank the Powers That Be that you and your hubby were not harmed. Well...sort of. Your bottom is paying the penalty.

A still sore Fanny reporting in this morning..... Yes, I know I deserved it. I don't think I need any more candles, as my bottom is glowing bright enough to light NYC. I think we can all get a bit neglectful at times, rushing and multitasking, so it was a lesson well learnt. I have also learned that I need to keep my desk a lot more tidy.

OH and here is the kicker, the papers that burnt are kept in a fire proof safe. I had taken them out to get a number off one of them. I got momentarily distracted and well the rest you already know......

Hey fanny, its the same in our house except it the kitchen thats the problem. when i do the cooking (yes ladies I do the cooking sometimes and I like that) I wash up as I work along. My wife piles things up all over the place and its Beyrouth in there. We always end up squabbling about this. Well as she is not the one who gets spanked in our house. I do because I argued about it! You may be correct, ME, but one could argue that you shouldn't squabble about it if you aren't willing to take the consequences.

As far as I go, ALL I did was innocently, kinda, sorta start a fire.

That's almost like being 'kinda''sorta' pregnant, you either are or you're not. In your case, you did or you didn't. And you did. And presumably your husband 'did' as well afterwards.

As they say "And let that be a lesson to you".

You probably frightened yourself silly when you came back into the room and saw the fire, I set my kitchen on fire once through inattention and I went into panic mode for my son even though I could see that he was in the living room and not in any danger but the mind is capable of fast forwarding horrible images in a nanosecond.

And do you feel better now?

Wow, I can't even imagine what my husband would do if I did that! All my candles burn on special shelves that are just for them where no paper goes and no combustibles are near.

I looked at one of those candle warmers once, but I burn candles for the light more than the scent. Alot of the scents I am allergic too anyway, so I usually just burn beeswax. Soon I will start pouring my own! Yay! I just have to get some wicking.

I'm not a big fan of open flames, myself. Never use them now, the cats are too curious.

I never get punished "severely", it is not necessary or appreciated by me. That said, my husband is VERY good at what he does, and now at 24 hours later, I am still very sore. (but no bruises). My bottom has learned to take a lot from that CB and he gives complete coverage spankings.

Hmmm, so, 5 across. 6 letters. Waxy substance not to be left unattended.

Does your husband like cross-word puzzles Fanny? Some of the hard ones take days to fill in.
Still fancy that cushion? You might be better off with standing for a few days and sleeping on your front.

I would consider a punishment that leaves a person sore for 24 hours severe, but maybe that word means something else to you.

To me severe implies bruising, bleeding or lasting marks. I was well spanked, bright red that faded overnight and am still a bit uncomfortable today. I guess I prefer the word sound to severe. Again my issue. Everything is in the wording. It matters what picture a word conjures up in your head.
