What are the effects of the cane?
I found this comment on the web recently.
The pain of the impact (of a a cane)can be felt in two different stages: first, a dull pain when the cane hits the skin, and after a few seconds, a more acute pain, a burning sensation that originates deep inside, spreads all over the buttocks and increases with time, that has
been compared to a hot oil burn (I never burnt myself with hot oil, so I can't know) or to being branded with a red hot metal rod (but I can
tell you, a cane cut really hurts).
Also, the pain is not immediate. It increases with time, reaching its peak some seconds after the impact. A good "caner" waits a few seconds between cuts, so that the next one arrives when the first is at its peak. The pain is cumulative, but not linear. It seems to increase with each
cut until the third or so. The rest of the blows just maintain the pain at its peak, making the ordeal longer.
Do you agree with this opinion?
In my case, I do not feel that the pain increases with time. To me, its effect is immediate after every stroke but slowly reducing with time. |

The way we use the cane, it's nothing like an oil burn or red hot metal brand and I didn't feel like it was spreading all over my bottom or increasing over a long period of time. The sting I felt was pretty immediate and then sort of sunk in slowly in that immediate area. I could feel where it landed, but that wasn't a serious burn type feeling.
When used harder, it does have a serious sting that will make me gasp, but when used lightly, it delivers a delicious sting.
I've described caning on my blog before and I've compared it to riding a roller coaster. You have the build up (tapping and then the swish), when it lands you've hit the top, and then there's the rush of sting that can take your breath away. After that the pain settles in and you start back up to the rise again. I *like* the cane when used for play because of the rush and its unique sting.
I think everyone's reaction to the cane is different though. Since we use it primarily for play, I enjoy it. Before we tried it, I was scared to death of the cane. I just knew it was going to cause serious damage and leave terrible welts. And it can, don't get me wrong! But the way we use it, I've learned to love it.
Dan's only used the cane hard once for a correction type spanking, and even then he didn't swing it nearly as hard as he could have. We don't do punishment spankings well, there's lots of kissing, rubbing, encouragement, and a bit of leniency so I can't say we've used the cane that way seriously. I can only speak for the type of canings I've received. |

I can't describe precisely, I can only say that yes, when used harder, the sting hurts horribly and it's really seconds later after the very impact... I do know it and yet I always say to myself right after the cane cuts "Oh, good, it's not that horrible today" ... but I always find out I'm wrong  . Yes, the pain slowly settles down, but I've never experienced that caning which was described... the one when the cane cuts down again just before the pain starts to settle down. And it seems to me logical that it increases than to its very peak. Hmm, I'd wish to experience that and yet I'm afraid. I've experienced the unbearable pain of the cane and I had all the time I needed before the next stroke. I was very happy I survived that caning, I can hardly imagine how I'd survive an even more painful one. I also used to be hell afraid of the cane, but really, when used playfully, it's a nice game. |

I will agree when used in play the tap, tap, tap of the cane can be quite nice. Mr. B is very careful with the cane, more so than any other implement. So to me at this point, the cane that used to frighten me, has become something that I like, if used gently. I've never had a very hard swish with the cane, but I am sure it would hurt a lot and I do not want to experience that type of caning.
I will say and agree that even in play, it does seem to take a short time for the sting to register once the stroke has been delivered.
The Spice of Life is having my OWN WAY!! A spanking would be nice.

I have never been caned and frankly it sounds frightening to me. Maybe the worst things are the ones you haven't experienced yet.

Mr. B got out Mr. Cane this morning and I was reaquainted with it. Man, even those tap tap tap strokes hurt even through jeans. Ever watch a Top swishing the cane through the air and saying "I love the way that sounds when it cuts through the air. Now bend over." 
I don't think so. I'm a pretty intelligent lady if I have to say so myself. Alas, he always gets his way though. I'm glad he uses the swishing and cutting through the air for effect and then uses taps on me. They hurt enough OUCH.

Oh, yes, swishing the cane... the effect is really very impressive... I remember that before one discipline spanking, he did that and it made me immediately tell to myself that i will not do the thing that I'm about to be punished for again  . And I even remember that once he gave me a choice whether to go through a caning now or let's see whether I can do better and postpone the caning... well, this is the effect of the very notion of the cane... I DIDI BETTER.  . Though I tend to brat a lot just to get a spanking usually... |

Since my Dom has decided to use the cane on me for breaking curfew, I havent messed up even once. It's too scary for discipline...although I like playing with it when he's being gentle.

Do you also tell to yourself knowingly "Well, good I'm not a schoolgirl of the times when cane was used as a punishment implement in schools"?  . Whoever not knowing can say anything about physical punishments, I will still say to myself: "What do you know, how much it hurts? Do you wanna try?" Hmm, good I'm being caned by my partner, he's considerate and wouldn't cause me to suffer as much as those poor girls (or boys) probably did... often probably mercilessly or even unjustly. Hmm, such a terrible toy... |

We seem to be in agreement that the cane can be a terrible instrument and that it can hurt frightfully, and yet it can be pleasantly painful when it is used moderately. One simply has to trust and be in tune with one's top.
My husband and I have got it worked out. He uses the cane enough to cause me delicious pain but never more than I can bear.
Thanks everyone for the comments, but it is curious how none of us really have a clear idea of whether it hurts at once, or reaches a crescendo after a short while. It is hard to be objective when one is on the receiving end of the cane. It simply hurts and that is all one is thinking about, but the degree of hurt can be controlled within the acceptable limits.
I find that it is exquisite when he keeps to reasonable limits, but I would not like to get a really hard punishment caning like they used to dish out to boys in the old days. Ouch!
I remember how my brother described being caned in school. I thought it erotically exciting at the time but when I received my first caning he had my sympathies. My female bottom is obviously more delicate than his and I admit freely that I took my caning like a woman, and not like a man.
But being caned is enjoyable if the limits are respected. |

Whoever coined the phrase "the kiss of the cane" got it right. Done perfectly, a cane stroke is wonderful, and I think I am searching for the Zen stroke. Of course, Tops always seem to want to PRACTICE, and like the three bears, some strokes are too hot, and some are too cold, and only a few are just right. |
