If you experiment with sensation as much as we all do, we learn what it is that tickles our fancy (literally sometimes). Me, I like lots of sting, thud, and burn, and I like it in different doses at different times.
I prefer heavy leather and medium to heavy wood for implements. I like a good hefty leather strap because it combines sting and thud with a good afterburn. I enjoy the wood paddles for the deeper thud if it's a big paddle or the long lasting sting if it's a lighter one.
I've noticed that the lighter paddles can be used longer without any numbing effects which is good for me even if I sometimes don't act like it. 
I think you bottoms know what I mean about the lighter wood paddles. They're just full of sting and that sting just keeps building up and you start to wonder how much longer it's going to go on like that and how you're going to take it. Dan likes to play a little game of it when he's using a toy like that. He'll spank me until I'm almost frantic, then stop for some rubbing and let me get comfortable again, then he'll start out slow and then build up the spanking until I'm almost frantic again. I like that game a lot btw. 
Other good spankings are the ones in which Dan mixes it up quite a bit and I never know what sensation I'm about to get. Hard and thuddy to stingy and burning and then back. Lots and lots of sensation!
Now I have to admit that I have a bit of a tough bottom. Most of the time, I like fairly intense spankings which leave me with a burning bottom. I know some folks don't like that much of a burn and prefer a warm glow instead. I enjoy that too from time to time, too. It's a great feeling. The only problem is, sometimes it only makes me want more! I have a very greedy bottom, you see.
But I'm not always out to get a big heavy spanking. Sometimes a lighter spanking is all we have time for. We do live in the real world after all. We can't always have a big intense scene. Sometimes you just have to grab a quickie when you can. That's usually when that awful Vermont Country Store bath brush comes in handy. Darn that thing burns! Or the schoolmaster strap. That thing stings! Dan can usually find something to make even a quick spanking memorable. 
I just like lots and lots of sensations. How about the rest of you? |

I've been meaning to respond to this for a while now Bethie, but life keeps interfering. But for the moment I'm back and able to post. 
I have to say that what type of sensation I like varies from day to day and when in a spanking it occurs. I prefer long, slowly escalating spanking with a variety of implements and sensations along the way. I love when hubby has been using something really stingy (wooden spatula for example) then switches to something more thuddy (eg. silicone icing knife).
Hubby however is known to have different ideas as to how the spankings will go. But that is my favourite part in many ways, the moment when I hear him reach into the drawer and pull something out, but I don't know what's coming at me. Sometimes he reaches in and then just continues to use his hand, just to keep me wondering. 
In fact, I have a tendency to comment something along the lines of... "What was that last thing? I really liked that." And get the response that it was something I said before I didn't like much. I did that last night and it was the mentioned icing knife.

Variation is the spice of life and so is the anticipation - for me that is the whole and the everything. I couldnt imagine having the same thing over and over again - one does simply just get bored with it. I too have favourite implements I like to use, and have used on me - sometimes I like it (or give it) measured, othertimes quick fire (with a theme or without one) - just depends on my mood and the mood of my sub or Dom.The same goes for whatever implement is employed - I have some (receiving) that I am completely comfortable with and others that I really would prefer to stay away from, however, now and again I get in a particular mood where I think, yes ok, Im alright with this for now. Mix n match is my own personal motto.
I would agree that sometimes my partner has delved into a drawer or chest and I am "lying in wait for my fate" thinking ... oh hell whats next!Therein lies the anticipation and all the lovelies that go with it. |

Mat, You confuse me. The Den is a place for consentual spankings only. If you don't like to be spanked, than DON'T be. The two posts I have read from you are about how not to be spanked, are you sure you are at the right place?
