Im hoping that someone can help me with this question and put my mind at ease...this is bothering me a lot.

Since my illness I have been put on Coumadin (a bloodthinner) and am supposed to be very careful about things like shaving, banging into things...even playing with my cat, who isnt declawed. Ive been told I will bruise very easily and bleed a lot if I get hurt. Im not sure how this will work with spanking.

Is anyone else on a bloodthinner who gets spanked regularly? Or are you a Top with a bottom on bloodthinners, and if so how do you deal with it? Have you had to change your play to prevent severe bruising? No implements? A longer warm up? What about arnica and bloodthinners...a bad idea?

I wont be spanked until September, and Im desperately afraid that I will bruise so badly after even a gentle spanking that I wont be able to play anymore during my 2 weeks in England. Has anyone else had this problem, and if so how did you cope? After hiding my fetish for so many years I'd hate to have to give it up now.

I wish I could help you Wolfie. I don't know much about blood thinners. But it doesn't sound like something you should mess with. There must be some kind of web site that could tell you more about the ins and outs.

I sure hope you don't have to give up something that you love so much.

Wolfie, try Googling "coumadin" for general info and then "coumadin arnica" for the info on interaction. I think as long as you're not ingesting arnica you should be fine, but you really should get more info (from someone else since I'm no expert) before you play.

Good luck!

Hi Wolfie
I found this little clip from the Harvard Medical School website...something you might want to check out. Do be careful - and I'm praying that you will have a speedy recovery. Take care of YOU, girl!

"In theory, arnica may increase the risk of bleeding when used with anticoagulants (blood thinners) or antiplatelet drugs. Examples include warfarin (Coumadin), heparin and clopidogrel (Plavix). Some pain relievers may also increase the risk of bleeding if used with arnica. Examples include aspirin, ibuprofen (Motrin, Advil) and naproxen (Naprosyn, Aleve, Anaprox). Use of arnica with other pain-relieving medications may increase the analgesic effects. It is possible that arnica may decrease the effectiveness of drugs used to lower blood pressure. Theoretically, arnica may cause a decrease in the protein binding of drugs that are highly protein bound."

Hi Wolfie,....I was on plavix and asprin for a year, and since then no plavix, but still on asprine, the Dr. told me to be very careful of what I did as bleeding can be a problem during that time and I did bruise easily, still bruise some from the asprine. I went over a year without any play time, even now we use a small hairbrush and paddle.

During the time I was on plavix I would get bruises from just doing normal every day things. now with just the asprine it is a lot better.

I do understand your feelings but your health comes first, becareful. You have to be stronger than I was, I was so scared when I got home from the hospital I was afraid of doing anything for six months. big coward I guess.

Sorry that this desn't help much but again becareful...best wishes

Natty, who contributes to the Punishment Book has been going through similar issues (clots in the lungs, boodthinners, etc.)

She's discussed some of these issues in her posts there and on her blog.

Hope this helps.

Thanks everyone.

I will have to be really careful when I first play again, although I may try smacking my thigh with some implements to see what happens. I am scared subbie, although so far I havent bruised from everyday activities. I think I'll stay away from arnica, it doesnt seem safe.

Thanks for the link Chris, I'll check it out.

I really appreciate the help folks, this has thrown me for a loop. I'd hate to have to give up spanking completely.

Hi Wolfie glad you.re getting better(thinking about playing is a great sign)I,ve been on Plavix for 3 years and don,t bruise at all.I do bleed a little easier than before but no gushers or anything like that.Wondered if you,d confided in your Doctor about this.Might be worth a try.

I dont know the differences between Plavix and Coumadin, but Im hoping I have the same reaction. I dont have the nerve to confide my spanko-ness to my doctor Buenaventura...Ive decided to test an implement or 2 on myself and see what happens.

Wolfie, Why not ask your doctor a very general question. I would ask something like "I lead an active life, do I need to be extra concerned about brusing or bleeding?"

Hi Wolfie,This is not a drug I know about, but there is plenty of info on the net about this. Here are a few links you might want to look at and read:
http://www.medicinenet.com/warfarin-oral/article.htm
http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/druginfo/medmaster/a682277.html
http://www.clevelandclinic.org/health/health-info/docs/2700/2790.asp?index=10001
My father, however, has a very bad heart condition and needs to take many tabs a day to stay alive and some of them result in him bruising very easily.
As you are a sub I would be very careful what you do.I'm no expert, but I know that when your condition is to a state where you need medical help then all precaution should be taken to maintain your health, first and foremost above anything else.
I do not want to frighten you or put you off,but getting hit with implements might not be advisable, but the key here is RESEARCH! FIND OUT!
Why do I write this?Is this helping? What does he know?etc. These are question you may ask yourself.
First I'm concerned about your safety and your health.I hope that you have no problems and lead a nice normal spanking life.
Second though,Blood clotting is very serious and can strike at any moment.2 years ago I went to work(12hr shift). My wife was working in the garden with the next door neighbours. The husband went inside for something and before he returned his wife collapsed onto my wife. She had a brain haemorrhage from a blood clot, and died within a week.
This will look and sound very scary, but this actually happened.
THIS DOES NOT MEAN ANYTHING WILL HAPPEN TO YOU.
I have read several sites while writing this and realize I know a bit more than first thought.
Something that was stated in most of the sites is that you getting hurt/bruising can result in bleeding under the skin and since being spanked will make the blood rush to your bum,I would urge you not to do anything until you have researched this exhaustively.
PLEASE note that this message is not written to scare you or put you off,but hopefully will help and give you enough info to get what you want,
a good spanking free from doubt.
Good luck to you

Thank you Atomicpuppy, I am trying to take things slow and not be so impatient. I see both of my doctors this week, so I should be able to get some answers to my questions.

My Dom wont let me even experiment (smacking myself with my hand or a wooden spoon) for 2 more weeks, to be sure my levels stay where they belong. He has no intention of putting me at risk, especially so soon after he almost lost me.

I'll be careful about any spanking in the future, and thank you for the links and information. :-)
