i had no clue that wooden paddles were so painful! We always used thin ones and i just imagined that thicker ones would be hotter and more exciting...i can usually take 50 hits with anything but after 3 with a wooden paddle i was almost in tears..it's so vicious! how many hits can you guys usually take? Am I a wuss?

You're not a wuss! We all have different levels of tolerance and preferences. Myself, I don't like big wooden paddles but I enjoy the smaller ones because they have sting as well as thud. I'm a big fan of sting with a nice side of thud.  |

I don't like big wooden paddles *at all*. Actually, I hate them. They are pretty much my least favorite impliment (after the ones that have personal negative conotations mentally). That said, I've had to endure a few rounds with them.
To answer your quesiton little miss, I think the most I've taken in any one session was at shadowlane in Feb. during a spanking contest. We each took a set of ten swats with the paddle, followed by a set of 30. The ten swats were over clothes, the 30 were half clothes, half bare. However, in general I struggle to get through a 10 or 12 swat "school style" paddling. I don't think you're a wimp because of this, experiencing that type of pain can be quite surprising. It isn't the same as other impliments.

You are not a wuss at all!!!! I hate wooden paddles - Jake and I only use them for discipline, not for play and I usually tear. They are extremely painful! OMG!!!

Wood is a killer when applied hard. Lighter paddles are okay. Wood goes deep, and causes long lasting bruises on me. Leather is much easier to take. And I think lexan is alot easier to take than wood. No wuss are you Little Miss.

My last punishment spanking ( the one for leaving the cell phone accidentally off for 4 hours) was ten smacks with the frat paddle.. a brief pause and ten more! It was the first time I had tears.. man that sucker stings... hubby packs a powerful sting. I was glad when it was over

Not being able to chose when it cmes to a punishment spanking I can tell you that all wooden paddles hurt. we have some that have a finish on them that makes them stingy and thuggy at the same time. I usually can feel it the next day and dear hubby says that's why he uses them to remind me the next day to be a good girl. The most I ever got with a wooden paddle was 50. I was crying and sobbing by 15.

I now receive the CB for breaking curfew, and got my first (and hopefully last!) dose recently. Up to this point I'd only felt it in play, so the disciplinary aspects were eye opening to say the least. OUCH!!!

I can totally related Wolfie - prior to Jake I was never disciplined and only played and the paddle is an entirely different issue when it is used for disciplinary reasons.

a few days ago i got over 100 with a thick wooden paddle...it was purely for punishment...i was a very very bad girl. i deserved it all but damn was i jumping after the 5th one. |

I don't like the distraction of counting. It takes away from being "in the moment"
Starting straight off with a paddle is usually what causes bruising. My husband always gets me nice and warmed up with his hand before we picks up the paddle. By then, it doesn't take much force with the padddle to make me FEEL it.

I have to count for actual punishments with my Dominant, and sometimes at the studio. If the numbers get to a certain point, or if my spanker wants to go faster I usually stop. Fast spanking is too hard for me to keep up with.

I have a slightly different perspective. Spankos often talk about how different a cane or a strap can feel depending upon how they are applied. In my experience, this can be equally true of wooden paddles.
I agree that a heavy paddle swung with full force is extreme. However, a thinner, lighter paddle when used with a flicking motion can be very erotic (at least for me). The result is a pink, warm bottom, but no serious damage.
There are many types of paddles and almost as many ways to employ them. Some combinations are very much to my liking. Other are not. So do I like wooden paddles? It depends... |

Bonnie voiced what I was thinking. I used to think that I hated wooden implements (heavy paddles & the cane). My boyfriend demonstrated that they can be sensuous. I used to love this certain razor strop (because I'd only experienced moderate strokes with it & loved the radiant warmth). My boyfriend took the thing to me for twenty hard licks and disabused me of that notion. Like knowledge, it's all in the application. But to sum up, I once had a horrendous session with a wooden hairbrush, so I know what made you write, Little Miss.

I hate wooden paddles. I keep telling my hubby that he doesn't need to use one!! His hand is plenty hard enough! He says it keeps his hand from stinging. I say if my butt is stinging his hand should also!!

I have experience both wood and leather paddles (leather is my fav)....but wood can be erotic and sensuous; that depends on the spanker ....and the type of paddle used.

nothing like having a woodshop and being forced to make a paddle with holes in it while knowing it's goign to be used on you within an hour...
as for how many..depends...i have had broken skin and that weird, hard bruised feeling after 20 and have only been bright red after 250 over the course of an afternoon...
just depends on how she's wielding it. |

I packed our three wooden paddles,, in preparation for the move, I purchased two cute flyswatters instead moving men wont think anything of them. Will hubby miss the wood? probably, but I look forward to the plastic

I hate wooden paddles also.I find them a bit too heavy and thuddy.I prefer something a bit more stingy.Like leather straps or the tawse or even the slipper,not so sure about the cane as we have not really used them,but each to their own,right? |

sorry to ask this as i'm sure it's been answered before, but i urgently need to find out how to take more with paddle type things!
the boyfriend just came back from work for lunch, and as the house was empty and i was frisky, i swiftly ended up bent over the bed being spanked...he started with his hand and i was loving it so much i asked for the hairbrush...(sorry, i know it's not a paddle but as it's small, thick and wooden i guess it's similar)
anyway, i was enjoying it all, arching my back appreciatively, and then he STOPPED...and wouldn't give me any more because he was hitting pretty hard and i was barely wincing, and i had those instant puurple bruise thingies...
the frustration!!! so yes...paddles and hairbrushes ARE evil. i love the feel of them but please tell me how to avoid numb bottom syndrome and the weird instant bruises!
or, failing that, is it ok to keep spanking even if you are nearly numb? it was feeling good, i was happy. i think he was worried by my lack of reaction and the bruising-of course i'm glad he cares for me, but i really wanted more!
sorry for rambling- i really need advice because we get this problem a lot! |

Tansy, have you tried getting a good leather strap? You can get well-constructed ones that are heavy enough to deliver a good thuddy spank but won't make you bruise as much or get as numb as quickly as wood.
We have a good heavy strap from Leather Thorn Paddles (simply called "Strap" and has a basket weave pattern on the back) that I love because it's nice and thuddy as well as stingy and a leather frat paddle that has a steel spring inside (from Extreme Restraints I think?)
If you're committed to wood you might tell your spanker to alternate between using the wood implement and his hand or something lighter during the spanking. You might also try getting a light wooden paddle like the paddleball ones we mention from time to time; the CB paddles that can occasionally be found at Cracker Barrel.
Speaking of the CB paddle, I'm looking for a reliable online source and have had good luck with one company for the Classic paddle (puzzlemethis.com) and very bad service with another company I'm still battling with. Grrr! But I'm still looking for a source for the Tournament style. |

thanks bethie...that's really helpful advice. i would love a leather paddle but living in a student house, secrecy is important so it might be tricky. (buying a buttplug was a nightmare, everyone was like 'OOOOH a package, open it, open it!' 
i'll try the alternation thing too...maybe this lunchtime!

I'm about to go off-topic but I'll move this discussion to its own thread if I need to.
Atomic, we're looking for a specific paddleball game. If you'll look at this thread Where else can I buy a cb paddle you'll see what I'm talking about.
The paddles are referred to as CB paddles because you can buy them at a few Cracker Barrel stores but they were made by the BC company. That makes it a little confusing, I know! They're great spanko toys though because of their size and durability. Unluckily the manufacturer that had provided them seems to have gone out of business. |

We use wooden paddles more than anything else.
The trick...just let it fall naturally. You don't need to use force behind them. The wood is stingy enough due to the fact that is does not give way and your skin does. It's possible to take quite a lot of smacks with one if the spanker doesn't use force behind it. There is minimal risk of bruising also if it's used this way. My hubby has spanked me several times with a wooden paddle (and I STILL don't like em!) and he has never bruised me.
Caution! ONLY spank with a wooden paddle on the cheeks! Avoid hitting the hips with one and avoid the tailbone area. There are nerve endings in the hips and you can cause damage. A tailbone is sturdy and can take falling on your backside but repeated smacks with an implement can cause it to chip or break. The cheeks and the "sit spot" are the best places to aim for.
