Hi everyone, my name is Eric. I guess I am here because I share the same interest as you do and have been looking for a place to talk with other people who share the same. I have read a lot of the posts and I would like to compliment everyone, most people here seem to be very nice and well balanced. I have visited many sites only to be turned off by their members, I am tired of people who take themselves and their interests far to seriously. I remember that once I posed a question, to which I was expecting a fairly simple answer, and what I got instead was a page long lecture (not an answer) from someone who was so full of himself that it made me want to vomit. Apparently I had commited some crime in asking whether they considered spanking part of bdsm. Heaven forbid !!!
Anyway I look forward to asking some questions, discussing our mutual interests, and making some new friends.

Hi Eric~~~~~~~~~~ YOU will enjoy this group. Awesome people with a great sense or caring and humor. IMHO spanking is not bdsm but could be considered an anticedent for it.
A woman`s heart may be filled with an ocean of secrets but mine have all been released and I have a sore bottom to prove it!

Categorizing an activity is all up to the individual. I would say that to me in is a matter of intency and intent. I don't consider spanking to be bdsm, but that is likely due to the level I play at. Oh, and my tendency to justify every thing I do.

Hi Eric and welcome to the Den!
Looks like you've gotten off to a running start! Since I've been in this lifestyle since the 80's I've seen the term BDSM take a bad rap. Which is sad because BDSM is an acronym of several phrases: bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism. I play with all of these elements and spanking is part of that so for me spanking is a part of that. That's the short version of my answer to that but if you want a longer one Google these terms "BDSM defined" or wait until I get the new BDSM discussion area up later this week, then you'll get some answers.  |

Thank you all for the warm welcome ! I hope to get to know all of you a little better and can in some way contribute to this site. By the way, thank you for your answers; I was just wondering what other people thought. Sometimes I tend to get a little too technical though, guess that comes from being a software engineer many years.
Also, if I can ever be of any help just let me know. |

Guy, you won't believe how many engineer spankers/spankees there are. I am going to make a hypothesis based on data I will collect and compile to come to an equation to prove undenibly why this is such the case. I will publish my} results in "Kinky Engineering Times" magazine, so look for it. Oh, I just happened to be married to such a man.

Hi Eric, Nice to meet you. I would say that discipline is indisputably part of the BDSM scene, which doesn't mean that every household using discipline is into BDSM, but if you participate in much BDSM more than likely discipline is involved...a common discipline used is one form of spanking or another. But being into BDSM doesn't make someone definately into spanking either. . . For me though they are pretty linked. . . I want my Dom to use spanking as a form of play and of discipline.  I guess it's an individual thing whether or not spanking is considered part of Bdsm. But let's not confuse the issue of a square being a rectangle, making a rectangle square.  Spanking isn't equal to BDSM but BDSM often involves spankings. (Depending on the people participating). |
