I've had him for 15 years..found him under my car with a collar EMBEDDED in his neck and a huge gash under his left front leg.
Over the years BO ( Franz Boas..named after an anthropologist.. my major )
has been my best buddy...sleeping next to me on a pillow and giving me me great conversation ( ex and I kept seperate bedrooms )
He has stopped eating, nothing I give him will entice him to eat. It is THAT time. I will call a home visit vet in the next week or to and have him euthanised on my bed. NEVER would I submit he or I to a last 'ride' to the Vet's.
I am in tears...but it IS the circle of life. SO many great kitties have gone before him and we will ALL meet again and be together forever at The Rainbow Bridge.
tried this post before but probably lost it through the tears of my acceptance of the inevitable....
Life may not be the party we hoped for
but while we are here we might as well dance

Changeling, I feel deeply with you. My parrot died some time ago and there are still moments - mostly when I see some book which he has read (parrots read with their beak as cats read with their claws) or I hear some music he loved - when I start crying.
But I am still happy that I could be with him in his last hours. And I am very happy that I didn't have to make the decision which you unfortunately have to make.
OMG while writing this I am crying again.
Sorry for what you are going through.

Oh Changeling, you have my heart breaking.

I cried for a month when my Linus died. He was a grey tabby and was 14 years old. He died in my arms.

Baby was a lil dog I had, he was 18 when he died in my arms.

Changeling, hold him and keep talking to him as he goes to sleep. He will know. He will go peacefully. And he will know you love him.
Take my heart and soul. But please don't step on it, it breaks easily.

Changeling, I am so attached to all the pets I have had since childhood. I am the one who stayed awake all night with a dying parakeet lying on a heating pad and even gave mouth to mouth to a hamster with a straw. We have a pet cemetary in our back yard and all of my furry, feathery babies are laid to rest there. When my Old English Sheepdog died, she was nearly as big as me and I was on the floor with her holding her until and past the last breath. My sympathies to you.

I know this is a few days old but I just wanted to add my bit.
I don't believe a house is a home without a pet and without wanting to upset anyone I believe people who love pets with a passion tend to have a huge capacity to love fullstop.
My first cat 'Misty' became ill while I was away at university I came home and spent the night cuddling in the bathrroom becuase he was desperate to drink from the sink tap but was too weak to drink or climb. I suffered my first migrane that night and lost my best friend.
He's was such a big part of my life that twenty years on I've recreated him in my username
Whatever as happened I hope you are ok

Hugs to you Changeling!Losing a pet is like loosing a piece of your heart :-(
A woman`s heart may be filled with an ocean of secrets but mine have all been released and I have a sore bottom to prove it!
