Last week I got a call from my daughter in the states. Her husband was killed in a motorcycle accident on that Sunday. It was Tuesday when she finally reached me. She is 32 and has 3 small children. My heart is breaking for her and those babies. She is too young to be a widow! And what made it worse for me...I couldn't go be with her. I didn't have the funds for a plane ticket to go from the UK to the states. Her husband was riding around a simple bend, something happened where he lost his rear wheel and he skidded across the road in the path of an oncoming truck which ran over him. He died at the scene. I've been trying very hard to stop the tears, stop the guilt at not being able to go to her. It's so hard to lose someone you love...and I did love him. I guess just talking about it helps.

Shylah - I am so very sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is to loose someone close like that (mother - car accident - 9 yrs ago this month). You can't feel guilty about not being able to get to her, but you might be able to find some deals through airlines (bereavement deals). Where is your daughter located? Perhaps some of us in the states can be of some assistance. Meanwhile, keep your daughter close by phone...it's not the same as physical contact, but it is something.

Thank you Otk. I can't leave right now anyway because of immigration. If I left the country before it was completed, I would have to start all over again. She understands and she has lots of support there. Her dad is with her and her sister. I talk to her almost every day. Plus the cycle club he belonged to has been wonderful to her. Bless all those people that are being a rock for her.

Well, Shylah, that right there is vital...the support system...so you can take solace in know she's not alone...and know you'll be with her when you can.

oh shylah, I will light a candle when I go to church and say a prayer you and your daughter. and some way your son-in-law will be always around her and his kids. just keeping an eye on them, I believe he will give her strengh to go on.  |

Shylah, I am deeply sorrowed to hear about this tragedy. It is so difficult to be so far away and feel helpless, but it sounds as you are being the best support you can for your daughter in this awful situation.

thanks to all of you. I talked to her tonight and her voice sounded so tired. I told her to take the day off tomorrow...no phone, no paperwork, no insurance claims, no attorney...just her and the babies. And that if anyone didn't like it to kiss her butt!! She laughed and said she might just do that!

I hope she did take today off to be with her children and grieve. What a comfort that the cycle club was there for her. |

I'm so sorry. I've ridden motorcycles all my life and I only wish I've not had to say that, so many times, to so many friends and familys that share our grief.

I can't imagine what your daughter must be going through, but at least she has people around her who care. Even though you're not there with her, you're still looking out for her, being a mom.
I really hope she takes time off like you suggested. |

Talked with her again. The funeral home delived his ashes to her. The ashes are in a box because she didn't want to pay the extortionate price for an urn. She has them in the top of her closet. She says that she knows he is saying "Oh great! She's got me in the closet!" She plans to scatter them at a place he loved dearly in a years time. Until then, she isn't ready to let them go.

Shylah, my heart goes out to you and your daughter. It is a horror beyond my imagination, and I can't imagine the pain you all feel.
If things change for you, regarding immigration, you might check with various airlines. I remember hearing that many of them have hardship rates for these types of situations. They are supposedly offering great discounts, or in some cases, even free flights when they can.

Know that you and your daughter and the babies are in my prayers. We sorta went through what you are going through. When my husbands mom died suddenly right before Christmas holiday his father could not get to him. They were long divorced but he wanted to be there for his children. The airfare for the holiday flight was way to high for him to afford. So he could come. I know what you are going through.

I'm so sorry Shylah that you, your daughter and the children have to go through this. I went through it at 25 with a 5 year old daughter. I am now 52 my daughter is 32 with 2 boys of her own. As hard as it seems now life does go on and it will get better day by day and year by year.
If she could come over to see you that would be a very big help. Both in healing for you and her and it will give her a chance to recuperate some. I took a trip to California when I lost my husband at 25. It is essential to get away for just a little while and see that life really does go on.
Take care and my prayers go out to all of you.
The Spice of Life is having my OWN WAY!! A spanking would be nice.

I've lost so many over the years, I know each day does seem to be better than the last...it's getting to that next day that seems to be the hard part.
