M: ok, I'll take eight hundred seventy nine.
Sc: that will be nine dollars.

Alright Mandy, you've got me stumped. I figure the numbers represent something else and each didgit is 3$. Like an add in the classifieds or something... But I am not quite getting there...

 Is he buying numeric signs and each digit costs $3? The first has only one digit so it costs $3, the second, "32" has two digits so it costs 2 X $3 = $6, and the third "879" has three digits so it costs 3 X $3 = $9. |
