You're in a forest and you know that within this forest live two types of people, the red people and the green people. The green people always tell the truth, the red people always lie. As you're walking through this forest, you come to a fork in the road where you know one way leads to safety and the other to certain death, however you don't know which way is which. At this fork stands a person, but it is too dark to determine if they are red or green; you may ask of them only one question to determine which branch of the fork to take. What is that question?

Okay I'm working on this....you can't ask the color because if its a red person he would lie anyway....tricky tricky.....I'm thinking...I'll work it out.....I won't give up..... |

Okay every fork in the road riddle I have ever heard of there are two people to ask one question. The fork usually leads to villages or towns: Example:
A traveller comes to a fork in the road which leads to two villages. In one village the people always tell lies, and in the other village the people always tell the truth. The traveller needs to conduct business in the village where everyone tells the truth. A man from one of the villages is standing in the middle of the fork, but there is no indication of which village he is from. The traveller approaches the man and asks him one question. From the villager's answer, he knows which road to follow. What did the traveller ask?
The answer is simple:
Ask either man..."which road goes to your village?
Then take the road the man pointed to...the truth teller tells you right and the lier will lie and not tell you his village so he would point to the truth tellers village.
Am I on the right track here??? |
