Looking for Chrissie is getting to be thirsty work. I need to head for the bar.

"Jake my good man, could I get a Hurricane with all that delicious rum, please?"

Thinking of the drink called a Hurricane reminds me of a rather poor joke:

Q:Why do they name Hurricanes after females?
A:They come in wet and wild and leave with your house and car.

After thinking like that I am shaking my head, wondering if I need the drink after all. Perhaps a pure, cool water would be better.

"Thanks Jake."

I run in, fixing my hair as I go. I am wearing a long, skin-tight, gown. It is a shimmering blue alternating with green, with just a drop of silver. I have a sheer black wrap over my shoulders, and black strappy heels. Rather than a mask, I hold a spanish fan in front of my face. A tendril of hair hangs loose down the back of my neck.

"Prissie, I am so sorry I'm late. I forgot to check my messages until tonight, and then just ran around trying to get myself together. Thank you so much for the invite! I hope it's not a bother that I arrived so very late. How is the party going?" I babble because I am nervous about all the new people -- and I do hate being late. (Although it happens fairly often!)

Cheeky excuses herself from the bar and her friends to go sample some of the goodies on the buffet. Fixing a plate of vairous foods, Cheeky returns to the bar. Gently sitting down. Cheeky feeling very warm and fuzzy, not just because of the drinking, but the warmness from her recently spanked bottom.

*Cheeky continues to snack, wondering who will be the next lucky ones to go upstairs. Prissie sure did have some neat looking toys, up there. I might even go back up later, if the chance arises.*

After a stunned moment, badgirl walks around saying hello to people.

"Hi Cheeky, I'm sorry I didn't say hello before, it's just all these people are distracting."

"Prissie, no thank you, I'll keep my wrap. It keeps my shoulders warm, and it may come in useful later. (badgirl eyes the stairs, and Buena)"

"Rusty, thank you, doll. It's one of my favorites. Although I admit to having overspent my budget on it. Oh, well... what else is new. I like to shop." :-)

Finally, last but most certainly not least, she makes her way to Buena. "Buena, hi. Uhm, I may need some time before going upstairs. <blushing> But perhaps we could start with that drink? I'll take a white wine, if they have."

Chrissie looks again around, because she thought that she had caught a glimpse of David. As she doesn't see him any more, she thinks that she may have been mistaken and goes to the bar.

"I think I'll take a glass of champagne; those cocktails are wonderful, but I am afraid they will give me a headache."

She takes the champagne and, turning around, almost bumps into the couple that is standing beside her at the bar.

"Oh sorry, I hope I haven't spilled my champagne on you." And giggling she continues "I wouldn't like to waste the champagne."

Hearing Chrissie's voice my heart skips a beat!

I have found her!

Turning around I find her standing behind me.
I want to give her a huge hug so badly but she has that glass of champagne in her hand.
"Chrissie darling, I am so happy to see you! Dreadfully sorry I had to leave you, I wish I could have explained."

"As I remember we were just heading for a waltz when I left. Is there any room on your dance card?"

Buena, I think I guess the special method you have in mind. But I am not so sure if it would be the right incentive in this case. I am trying as hard as possible, but there are some features in English that are not so easy to be mastered.
French seems easier to me and in France I have already succeeded that people thought me to be french - even without your special method.

Maybe a bar at a greal party isn,t the best place to discuss languages. As a profesional translator I can understand your need for perfection.I only speak spanish and portugeese both with awful accents. Most spankees seem to be perfections I find. Are you a perfectionist Badgirl?

buena, don't desert me! I am sorry for my silence, (away and unable to get to a computer), but the wine was just too good to stop drinking. (looks ruefully at the empty glass) I have never tried this wine before. I usually drink pinot grigio.
If you are looking for a dance partner, I would be happy to join you. I have learnt the Waltz, perhaps you would be so kind? We could join Chrissie and David on the dance floor.
In response to your question, though, yes. I am a perfectionist. Although I get quite frustrated, and often give up, when I don't think I can get something perfect. Another flaw....

Oh, thank you. I like it -- and the effect it has on half the population. :-) I will wait until after the dance for another glass of chablis. Two glasses might make it hard for me to dance and easy for you to take advantage. (I walk out to the dance floor, my hips swaying to the music) So buena, I heard you say you do translations. How marvelous! I love languages! (I bat my eyelashes and hope you will forget about my tardiness)

Buena, you tease you! <battingeyelashes> I bet you move better than half the men out here! and some of the women too! Personally, I am much better at the salse than the meringue. But I bet you could get me up to par on both!

Tell you about me? Well, what do you want to know? You already know quite a bit. My taste in clothes, my tendency for lateness and overspending, my choice of wine and music....

It wouldn't be ladylike to divulge much more at such an early stage of our acquaintance! You wouldn't want me to be unladylike, now, would you?

She gulps quietly to herself and reaches for that glass of wine, downing 2/3 of it without even tasting it.
"Hi Cheeky, Trent, Rusty! Everyone having fun?"
(she hopes her cheeks aren't flaring as bright as they feel)
"Thank you, Jake." (gratefully as he refills her glass)

"Aww, Chrissie, try some of this chablisienne. It's a wonderful white that BV picked out. Good for all that ails you. And don't worry; David seems quite keen on you -- he'll be back. Men wander off, but they usually come back." :-)
"BV, that's quite alright. I understand urgent phone calls, I do. Everything is alright, I hope? As for Hemingway, who hasn't read at least some of his works? I mean, The Sun Also Rises, For Whom The Bell Tolls, The Old Man and The Sea.... These are American classics. And while I am not American, still...."

Wonderful girl!I might be wrong but I think that comment was from Death in the Afternoon.Hemingway was my hero when I was younger and a lot of the things I,ve done in life were inspired either by him or his philosophy.Considered machista today but what the hell.Who is your favorite author Badgirl?

"Hmm, BV, I thought that comment was something he said, not wrote... but I am likely wrong! My favorite author? That's a tough one.... I have a love/hate relationship with Elie Weisel, As part of my generation I'm a huge fan of Robert Jordan, as a token to women everywhere, you have to love Margaret Atwood, but I truly do love the classics -- Jane Austin, Charles Dickens. Argh! Please don't make me choose! Mostly I just love to read."

Dean Koontz?! He's awesome... Michener and Uris I have yet to read; but Heinlein -- one of the big three! I mean I prefer Clarke, but I'll take Heinlein over Asimov anyday! Are you a true science fiction fan? Or just the classics? (As for the devouring, BV, I'm sure I know EXACTLY what you meant.

I will fear no evil -- one of his better known books, but not my favorite -- for 2 reasons. The first is that like most books written piecemeal for a newspaper (like some of Dickens' stuff) it tends to be wordier than it is succinct. The second is that I find the dialogue trite at times, and unbelievable. (Hmmm.... Can you call it a dialogue when both inhabit the same body?)

I am actually a big fan of Glory Road, which while still written in parts seems more flowy to me. Perrhaps I just like the pace better -- less of his philosophies, more story!

As for the other, you should be ashamed.... I am a young lady, innocent and naive. (OMG, can you hear me laughing as I write this?!)

As for the wine -- I must be nearing the legal limit... How many glasses have I had already?! Oh, well. I suppose one more can't hurt, right?

If you accept the concept that there are two distinct people involved than of course it,s a dialogue.(Which I do)Wordy from Heinlein wellll(I admit that Hemingways idea of never one word more than needed is valid)I loved it when Heinlein was wordy. From a mans point of veiw I thought he got in to her thinking process very well(then again what does a man know about that)Maybe your dialogues with your better half are never trite (wish I could say the same)???Naaaah drink up baby you,re doing fine!Jake one last glass for us please.

Chrissie is still looking for David. While looking she has heard part of the conversation of Buena and Badgirl. She can't help but eavesdrop as books are her great passion. Once or twice she is even tempted to make a remark, but then again she thinks that she shouldn't be eavesdropping and maybe she wouldn't like the reaction that an unwanted remark of hers could cause.

She sips at her wine unwilling to leave and stop listening.

Well, from a woman's point of view, I didn't think he understood as much as he thought he did. Or maybe I am just missing part of the point... (It's always possible, although I will never admit it)

As for the dialogues with my better half -- well, I asked him and apparently he thinks they might be on occasion. (Once I get over the instinctive wrath ) I think I may need to work harder.

Chrissie, what's your favorite book? Oh. Do you think she heard me? She seems to be heading over to the dance floor -- with David! She found him!I am so happy for her!

So, BV, this our last glass you say? Why? What happens after this? Should I drink quickly or slowly?

With a wine like this you should always sip my dearand no actually I,m enjoying myself we can stay for awhile if you like. The point I think was that Heinlein being a machista way back then was ahead of his time in trying to fanthom the female psyche and a liberated psyche at that.If he was successful or not doesn,t matter as always he was way ahead of his time.
As for trite dialogues nothing wrong with trite it can be fun!!Intellectualizing everything is boring.Hmmm maybe you,d like to talk about overspending and being tardy for everything??

Besides liking it for me the most important thing about the book was it being about the first brain transplant which is something I think you,ll agree with me about it,s something that will happen.Just a question of time! His placing events to come in a time frame was very well done and much of what he wrote as fiction is reality today.Anyway speaking of time frames why don,t we go exploring and see what there is to see?(Glancing at the stairwell)

"Oh yes, David, I would like to dance that waltz. Just a moment."

Chrissie turns to the couple discussing books and answers Badgirl's question.
"I don't have one favorite book. I like many books. Hermann Hesse is one of my favorite authors, but I also love murder mysteries, first of all those by Donna Leon and by Tony Hillerman. Perhaps we can talk about that later. Now I'll have to take care that I won't lose my dancing partner again."

Chrissie follows David to the dance floor.

Hmm... She's got me Buena. I don't know any of those authors. I have a sudden urge to go to the library.

For the record though, amongst my favorite murder/mistery authors: James Patterson (amazing storyteller!) and Harlan Coban (predictable stories, but I LOVE how sarcastic the main characters are).

"Ah Chrissie darling. This ordeal has been pure torture for me. I am so glad we are together again. Please forgive me for leaving you."

As we get onto the dance floor the music takes control and I take you in my arms and hold you close. What a delightful feeling.

Together we drift across the dance floor as if we are floating on air. Heads are turning our way and giving us approving nods.

Ah, this is heaven on earth.

(I know Tony Hillerman Na-na!!)

"Men... They have such small bladders." :P

I momentarily debate giving you a cold shoulder for having left me so long. Then I decide I wouldn't enjoy the repercussions, and of course that it would be petty and beneath me.

Besides, were having so much fun. Why ruin a good thing?

"I would love some champagne, BV. You certainly know how to treat a lady..." I put my glass down, and look over at you with a small smile.

Kellerman's great, I agree. Although, to be honest, I find a lot of his stories merge together in my head. But they are always fun to read!

Wild Swans? No, I haven't. I shall have to look it up someday.

I have had Dom Perignon once, at my graduation. I wouldn't mind having it again. But it definetely is not in my budget... What's a girl to do?

Chrissie, while starting to dance with David, mumbles to herself: "James Patterson and Harlan Coban, I have to remember those two names. It seems that Badgirl is as crazy about books as I am."

"David, do you understand that some people pretend not to know how to dance a waltz? I think you simply have to let go and follow the wonderful music and your feet are dancing all on their own. It's great."

Not getting the response I want, and being generally impatient about things I want, I up the stakes a little.

I lean over the bar and take a piece of ice from Jake's bucket, long, fluid, graceful movements. With a glance over to BV, I take the ice, give it a small, slow suckle, and drag it over my collarbones.

"Is it just me, or is it getting a little hot in here?"

Maybe I should flirt with Jake a little, he seems cute enough. Besides, he's here now.
