Ok, now I understand.

Here goes:

The background: I work in a manufacturing plant that uses a lot of dangerous machinery. People have got caught in these machines when they are running and lost fingers and hands. For this reason we are required to "lock-out" the machines (that means we need to shut the machines off and put padlocks on the switches so they can't run or inadvertently be started while we are in dangerous situations.) If we get caught going into a machine without locking out we have 3 penalty steps;

1st offence = 3 day suspension
2nd offence = 3 week suspension
3rd offence = termination.

Well, I am currently training on a new machine. Last week the boss asked me to tell him how the machine needs to be locked out and I did a perfect job in telling him so he wrote up a complimentary slip for me. Not even 1 minute later the machine malfunctioned and while the machine was running and while he was watching I reached into it! I did not stop the machine and I did not do a lockout procedure. That was a very very bad and dumb thing to do. Very luckily I did not get hurt. Neither did I get disciplined for it. There are tons of reasons why I should have been suspended (I have extra responsibility and will be explaining this shortly.) But nothing happened to me. In one way I am glad I did not get my 1st suspension but in another way I richly deserved it. I find this pretty disturbing.

If you are willing this is how you can help ease my guilty conscience:

Lets do a scenario where you are my lady supervisor and you call me into your office. You tell me all about witnessing me reach into the rollers while they were running to get the piece of wood. You tell me that I know better and had just proven to you that I know better. And you state that the normal penalty is a 3 day suspension, but since:

1) I am a member of the safety committee
2) I have given both management and fellow employees great criticism when they failed to follow proper procedures. I have investigated lockout violations by other employees and these employees have suffered suspensions.
3) I am a first aid attendant and should be aware of the potential injuries I could have suffered.

(all these things are true)

You the supervisor tell me that you have decided that my punishment needs to be more forceful.

So obviously, guess what forceful means.

Fanny what your female members can do is step into the role of my supervisor and write a scene about taking me into their office for more forceful punishment. This punishment is to be on the bare. An element of humiliation would be good.
What ideas are out there? I need to get the message that this hurts. That part is important. I need to remember not to do this again!
I am going to restrict this to female respondants doing a female role only. I will not play male/male.

This should be good therapy for me.

Female members please add to this scenario and suggest exactly what you would do to discipline David.

Fanny...I would like to discuss David's poor job performance as well, may I join you both in the office. He is a valuable part of the organization; and while he must be held accountable for his actions, perhaps a more personalalized form of discipline can be found for him, to ensure he remembers the rules.

Did you think because I said nothing to you at the time I had not noticed your error, nor cared; well, I care deeply about your tenure here, and do not think I will not take this matter before the board myself!

A Mistake! I would say so; and please do not claim that this was the first time that you have made this "mistake." The first time you were caught, well, perhaps; but, the first time you have lost focus on safety, please, spare me!

You have worn a path to my door reporting on others; I am not really suprised. So, explain to me why I should not suspend you; or, if you were in my position, what would you suggest be done instead.

We have a deadline, and, you agreed to be trained on this piece of equipment; now David listen, we need someone with commitment, someone dedicated, someone trainable!!

I will expect you in my office after work, to discuss your job performance openly; without interuption, in private. And, I will be watching you much more closely now; do not let what happened, happen again, understood!

Ah Ma,am .....
The un-paid hours seems ok. The private spankings I probably deserve. I would hope we don't go as far as the public spankings. As for the "... into ..." , Ooooooooo that does not sound very pleasant at all. I think I would need some say in the matter when and if the time comes. Perhaps we could discuss this part better in private (you have a private message waiting for you )

If these changes meet your approval then I will reluctantly sign.

I have been very careful about lock-out since my last mistake. I think I am doing better now.
