Some ladies attach considerable importance to keeping their panties in place for as long as possible when they're being spanked. Though panties offer virtually no physical protection, they provide some psychological comfort.
When dealing with a lady of this disposition, a gentleman is faced with an interesting dilemma. His instinct may be to bare her bottom for the entire session, but this can cause undue distress. In these circumstances, a gradual approach will probably work best, with the lady's "last line of defense" being lowered only towards the conclusion of the spanking.
Some gentlemen, of course, may prefer the incremental approach under any circumstances. I think that the psychological aspect of a spanking is just as important as the spanking itself. It sets the tone for the action. Depending on the nature of the spanking, whether it be for disciplinary or erotic purposes, creating a mindset for the spankee is what I'm after. Some respond well to chastisement or guilt, others some humiliation. I'm a believer that spankings by default should be bare bottom from start to finish. I want to be able to monitor the skin.
