As most of you know , I WAS lookig forward to my first play party with the local goup this Saturday...(That's TOMORROW!). I went out and spent money on a VERY sexy outfit for it, arranged to take the night off from work at the hospital...(NOT EASY TO DO). I JUST found out they decided to cancell it because the place they meet is having water problems....although apparently this isn't something new. I'm so dissapointed. Stomping my feet, and waititng to tell Dom that I won't be planning on attending anymore anything with them.I don't deal well with getting my hopes up and then getting disappointed. This just sucks...

I'm sorry about your plans falling through. You're right, that does suck! But are you sure you're ready to give up on the group already?

Is there any chance you can have a private party, a sort of early Valentine's celebration, instead? You have the outfit, might as well put it to use!

Celticbratt,

Totally understand but perhaps your S/O can put that new outfit to use. As far as getting off from work, it's a wonder if admin allows any bedside nurse to get any days off. Try to make the best of it. Creat your own party.

The following is a letter I drafted to the UKS- I need permission from Big G to send it, but I think it's pretty fair???

I'm sorry to say, I think I need to remove my membership from the UKS. I've met some very nice people at the munches, and I understand that it is run by volunteers, who do a lot behind the scenes to host said munches and parties. UNFORTUNATLY....this past party cancellation has left me with a really bad feeling- It is my understanding that it was canceled because of problems that were known about MONTHS before the planned party date- I had to basically promise my first born child in order to get the night off from working at the hospital- I took 12 hrs vacation time- about 150.00$ after taxes- I then spent another 50.$ on color appropriate clothing for this party- so I basically blew about 200.$ for a party that got canceled the day before it was supposed to take place, over problems that were known about for months-Sorry- but it's way too steep for me-not to mention the fact that I arranged for a sitter, ect.I understand that things happen, but I hope that those who plan these parties, and cancel those same parties, understand just how expensive it can be for some.It seems that I just can't afford to be a UKS member anymore.

We had a public BDSM party here canceled by a note on the door, due to an electrical problem that was happening for several days. Is that sufficient notice to the members? No, but shit happens.

Celtic, every group has it's problems, and the fact that you decided to attend their party, and spend tons of money, is really not their responsibility.

I understand getting your hopes up, but water problems, that they've been having for a while, are not predictable. My guess would be they've probably been working on the problem all along, and had hoped, themselves, to have the problem fixed in time for the party. My bet would also be that they invested into this party too, and lost due to the problem.

You're rant to them, may satisfy your urge to vent, but you're not going to make any friends from putting your issues onto them. They are probably doing their best to run the group, and always have issues to deal with to try to do things right, and to satisfy everyone.

There is no glory in running a group, because there will always be someone complaining.

If you think about it...do they really care about your clothes expenses when they have a big water problem to deal with now? And you're new to their group, right? You've not contributed to the group yet, except by your presence at one munch, if I'm not mistaken, but you want to rant and tell them they are not worthy of you, because they have a problem?

What happens when they need the membership to understand the issues? When they need the membership to support them? Sure they need the membership to even have the group, but everyone has to work together.

I'm sorry you got all built up to enjoy your first party, but life happens, and while you're dealing with all the excitement and let down, they are still dealing with their water issues, and dissatisfied members.

Maybe you could try to see things from their point of view. I don't know about you, but I had plumbing problems a few years ago, and it took quite some time to get it fixed too. Some things are easily fixed, yet every day I hoped it would be the day.

Unless they took your money, for the party, and refused to give it back, I don't see why you don't give them a chance.

Don't let your disappointment cause you to burn bridges. Members in the community, sometimes, don't take lightly to harsh words of complaint. I realize it's good to vent, but you may just be putting a silence to your getting to know many in the community.

In spite of your letter going to the leaders of the group, word will get out about your rant. I don't think it will put you in a favorable light, for most.

You might think about that before sending your note.

Most group leaders are really doing the best they can, with the little bit of resources they may have for the group.

And the outfit can always be worn to another event, right?

Having run many different types of groups myself, I totally agree with K. A lot of the time it's a thankless job done by volunteers, most who do the best they can with very little support.

I dont know who told you the plumbing problem had been going on for a while, but did that same person also know what they'd been doing to fix the problem? Putting on a party is hard work and usually expensive to boot...I doubt they were ignoring a problem that could come back to ruin their event.

Im sorry you lost vacation time and pay, having to take a night off when the party was cancelled. But if you knew the day before about the cancellation, couldnt you have made other plans so you could at least go out and have some fun? A night off is still a night off after all.
If you live to be a hundred, I want to live to be a hundred minus one day, so I never have to live without you.

Grow old with me, the best is yet to be.

Agreed Wolfie, a night off is still a night off, even if there is some disappointment involved.
I'm sorry, but not as sorry as I'm gonna be.

I used to do alot of voluteer work, organizing fund raisers and such. It is the most thankless job you will ever have. It seems that you never do enough or work hard enough for volunteer jobs. Someone is always complaining. I finally gave it up and concentrate on my paying job.

I realize I have not posted much - but I have lurked about since October. Seeing this post made me think of how much fun I have ahd at munchs and how hard the people that ran them worked to make them fun.

I hate what happened to you happened. But you really should not take it out on the entire group. Did they force youto go get the new outfit or take time off? No, those are choices we make as individuals. I have done the same thing. I bought all new undies and stuff to take on a weekend getaway to see one of my favorite bands. The band had to cancel at the last minute... so should I never see them again and mis out on fun with them? heck no. Use the outfit you bought the next time they have a much - they won't know! Muchs are too much fun to not try at least once!!!

Just my 2 cents
