My problem nowadays seems to be my dear beloved dog. She is devoted to me and is my cuddle bug. I love her dearly but she is putting a damper on things!

She gets upset when I get spanked and tries to protect me. We put her out...she barks...we put her in a different room...she barks. "B" HATES it when she barks and will quit. Today we were just hugging and she barks.

Any dog behavior peoples out there to give me advice?

Tough problem Shylah.Think you have to either push the mute botton or ask some friend or neighbor to look after her for awhile when you get the urge.

Same issue here. Forunately we have 2 dogs and can put them together in another room and they are fine. Of course we have to keep things down to a dull roar due to the kids.
So Shylah.....ever think about getting a little brother or sister for your dog?
OR can you dog play outside while you play inside?

Shylah...we have a bit of a pet problem too. Our dog is a chow/golden retriever male mix and VERY attached to me. If I even go OVER to my hubby to hug, he will get "dominant" towards me! **Humps my leg!!!! **He is a fixed pup. I asked my vet about this and he told me that my dog sees me as "all his - I belong to him and no one else".

He asked me who feds the dog? me
Who walks the dog? me
Who lets the dog out? me
Who plays with the dog? me ( I am home most of the day)
This is why the dog is so attached to me.

His suggestion was to have my husband begin to play, walk, feed, and let "Jake" out. Well, that's a great suggestion, but the man works all day!!

So, when a spanking is in order, or we want to be romantic, the dog has to go into the kitchen (we put a gate up) or outside when the weather is nice. At first, he whined, cried, or barked - but now he is pretty used to it.

Only problem - when he sees me getting the "gate", he won't go into the kitchen!! :-) We have to lure him in there with treats!

I've found that my dogs can be "bought off" fairly easily with a nice knuckle bone you can get pretty cheap at the meat counter of your local supermarket. Inside or out, they aren't too keen on leaving that treat alone, giving you time to have your fun!
Some day you'll spank me... er thank me for this!

Now that is a thought Weasel. She does love it when I get her a nice bone from the butchers. I keep a supply of them in the freezer to give her from time to time. We call them "puppy popsicyles"

Weasel, great idea - I'm so in agreement. I do the same thing with my kitties only I use catnip and put it all over their condos and toys so Jake and I can slip into the bedroom so they don't worry and get scared, LOL.

My dogs hate when I am spanked. I have to get them out in the backyard. Our cats just look at us like we are idiots!!

I will take an empty bone from the pet store (one of the hard ones that wont splinter) and smear peanut butter or cheez-whiz inside it, then wrap it up and put it in the freezer. Whenever I need to keep the dog busy for a certain time period I take it out of the freezer and give it to him. He's so busy chewing and licking, trying to get the goodies out of the middle of the bone, that he could care less what Im up to.

Dominance in any dog to a family member or friend is unwelcome and should be squashed immediately. The more a dog is allowed to keep spouses apart, the worse the behavior will become.
