There they were laughing and rolling around on the bed, tickling each other and play wrestling like all new couples do. There was love in the air, it was Valentine’s Day and they had each received gifts they both loved. As they were laying on the bed joking and laughing about their day, Neal suddenly flips Anne over on her stomach and starts tickling her. Not in her ribs but her sit spots. While she is laughing uncontrollably and attempting to move out of the reach of Neal’s tickling fingers she blurts out Stop It! Nick. The room gets really quite and Neal slides off the bed to stand and look down over Anne, while she attempts to figure out how to get out of this situation.

Anne grins and looks up into Neal’s steely grey eyes and attempts to make light of the slip up. Neal knows that she only has eyes for him but lately when they get together she talks a lot about the guys she is around at college all day. Anne knows some girls, but growing up with brothers and all male cousins and friends of her brothers, she naturally gets along well with guys.

Neal stands with his arms crossed and asks why did another guys name come up when he was touching her in such an intimate area. (Neal is the only one that knows of that certain ticklish spot). Anne takes a deep breath and explains that since both their names start with N she accidentally said Nick’s name instead of his.

Neal takes Anne hands and pulls her up off the edge of the bed to stand in front of him. Anne leans her neck back so she can look Neal straight in the eye as he looks deeply into hers and says “ If you ever call me another man’s name, I’ll tan your backside until you can’t sit for a week!” Anne swallows the lump in her throat and throws her hands around Neal’s neck. They hug and love on each other and then it is time for Neal to go home.

(Anne was worried cause their relationship had a very bumpy road with breaking up with him before for a guy she knew since childhood, only to find out he was using her. When she and Neal had talked out that situation and gotten back together, Neal made it perfectly clear that he would not be anyone’s yo-yo. If she wanted him then she would have to sure that is what she wanted. Anne made up her mind that Neal was her soul mate and wanted only to be him. Anne learnt two things out of that relationship, (1) what kind of pick up lines a guy would use to get what he wanted and (2) that you could know someone for a lifetime and not really know them at all, this she learnt the hard way from the childhood friend.)

The next day Neal came by Anne’s house and they had a very serious conversation about the day before and how Anne really felt. Anne explained that she loved Neal very much and wanted to be with him the rest of her life. After much hugging and kissing and petting they decided to go for a ride.

Anne lived on a dirt road way back in the country with very few houses around hers. There were three creeks that wound their way through the woods surrounding the area of Anne’s home. Her favorite place was at the end of the dirt road, where there was an old wooden bridge that crossed over the shallow water of Yellow Leaf Creek. She had waded in that water from the time she was a toddler to now while she and Neal dated. It was one of the first spots she ever shared with him.

Anne felt like something was up with Neal but didn’t know for sure what it was. She constantly asked him “Are you okay? Are you still mad about yesterday?” Neal just grinned and said, “Yes, I’m okay and no I’m not mad about yesterday.” I have a surprise for you and wanted to give it to you somewhere special. Anne was all jittery, she trusted Neal with all her being, but he was acting strange.

Neal knew Anne was jittery, he wanted her to be really surprised so he slowly drove down the dusty dirt road and glance over occasionally to see Anne wringing her hands together and a fretting look on her face. Anne was sitting in the seat beside Neal, he bumped her with her shoulder saying “ stop fretting, you will like my surprise.” Anne looked up at the side view of his face and smiled grabbing his hand and holding it.

Once they came to the end of the road, Neal parked the car, got out and held the door open for Anne to follow suite. Anne slid over the driver’s side seat and out into Neal’s arms. They walked hand and hand down the little trail, which lead to Anne’s favorite spot. The water was always shallow here, just perfect for wading in, and constantly bubbling over the rocks, which covered the creek bed. Anne was standing in front of Neal with her back to him and his arms wrapped around her waist. Looking out at the water and the sandy beach that lie just across the waterway. Anne felt one of Neal’s hands leave her waist, but she was in such deep thought as to their plans and ideas for the future that she didn’t pay attention to him maneuvering his hand over her shoulder to hold a small black jewelry box out in front of her face. Anne startled at the box appearing in front of her asked “what?” But before she could finish the question Neal whispered ever so softly into her ear “ Will you?” It took Anne a few seconds to realize that Neal was proposing to her in his own special way. Excitedly Anne turned around and said “YES.”

To make the day even more special Neal had packed a picnic lunch and blanket in the back of the truck. While Anne was waiting and adoring her engagement ring, Neal went to retrieve the picnic items out of the truck.

Anne knew the creek like the back of her hand and decided to go wading up the creek while Neal was getting the picnic items. Neal returned to Anne’s favorite spot now turned special spot, only to find Anne gone.

Laying the picnic items downs he cursed as he looked and seen Anne’s socks and shoes laying on the ground. That meant only one thing, Anne was in the mood to explore and as usual took off without a thought to anyone else. Neal was going to strangle her when he found her, or better than that warm the seat of her britches.
