Just for the intellectual stimulation, I started taking French lessons today. It appears that everyone except me has already taken French in high school. I REALLY need help. Anyone here that can help me with my studying?

Other than a few words related to spanking I know no French. Living in Miami spanish seeps into you. TD however knows all the durty words in French, Spanish, German and Hungarian.

I'll get a list and post it here just for you Fanny.

Oui, je parle francais. (But I lack the motivation to type this in Word and get all the required accents).

I grew up in Montreal, a very bilingual city. I used to be fluent, but I don't use my French as much as I used to. (But my kids still try to use me as a dictionary).

Go say this to your partner: S'il te plait, cheri, donne moi une bonne fessee.

I've always liked Italian myself.

Siete stati una ragazza piccola molto difettosa e dovete essere sculacciati.

The only words I recognize in that sentence are "ragazza" and "sculacciati".

Those are the important parts anyway.

I'd love to learn Italian. Someday. I took a year of Spanish about 20 years ago, which was easy to learn after French, but I've forgotten most of it.

Oh Pagan, please be my email pen pal. I like to travel and learn a bit in each country I go, then I get them all mixed together. Since the last time I have been in France, I have been to Italy and Hungry. Plus Spanish keeps popping in my head!!
After the "If you please darling", you loose me, translation please. Rocco, I am completely lost with yours. With the exception of "Where is the metro station?" I have forgotten all my Italian.

Chère Fanny,

I had a couple of years of college French some years back. While not anywhere near fluent in the language, I can probably be of some assistance with written French grammar, etc. Just don't ask me to converse en Français. Pagan would probably be much better at that than would I... c'est dommage....

Anyhow, I'll gladly PM you with my e-mail address. You may contact me at your convenience.

In closing: As-tu été une bonne petite fille, ou as-tu besoin une bonne fessée?

Bon chance mademoiselle.

That being the case, if you're ever in Chicago I'll plan on turning your derrière as ROUGE as the one in the picture above.

I do believe you will have to take a number. I have a reputation that precedes me, if you haven't noticed!

Why do you think one of the gentlemen here designed a room of my own in this forum for just that purpose?

(Since I'm divorced it's not my name any more.)

Chère SNN,

Actually, léger is the masculine form of the adjective. If one is discussing a woman, one would need the feminine form, which is légère.

By the way, SNN, the name for the accent mark over the first e is spelled accent aigu. The accent over the second e in the feminine form is called an accent grave. There is also a third accent mark which resembles a chevron, called an accent circonflexe. An example of a word containing a circonflexe is hôtel, which of course translates to "hotel" in English.

As for you, Mademoiselle Fanny...

If you think I can't keep up with you, you underestimate me – and you're in for quite a surprise.

I do love a nice surprise, Lash!! Especially if it comes in a little blue box inside an little blue bag. (Anyone follow?) Of course, there are those pink boxes with the black bows. Two points to those who know which stores those boxes come from.

Et Lash, you may correct my français whenever needed, but you may also be underestimating me in other areas as well!!

BTW I do know the proper word for hotel l'hôtel.
See, I AM learning something!!
